Akshay Kumar's birth
name is Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia. He was born on September 9, 1967 in Amritsar,
which is the north Indian state of Punjab.
Akshay Kumar grew up
in Delhi and later his family moved to Mumbai where he grew up in Mumbai's
Sion Koliwada locality. Akshay is married to Twinkle Khanna and they have a
son named Araav who was born on 15th September '02.
Akshay Kumar started
out primarily as an action star in the 90's thanks to his martial arts skills
and got his first bonafide hit with the movie Khiladi. He was thereafter
known as the Khiladi Kumar or simply Khiladi (The Player). He had a few hits
as he went along like Mohra in 1994 and Sabse Bada Khiladi in 1995. He also
attempted a few romantic movies like Yeh Dillagi in 1994 and Dhadkan in the year
2000.
Then in the new
Millennium he went for a gamble and attempted a wide range of roles –
Drama, Emotional and also comedy. It was comedy that fetched him a cult hit
with Hera Pheri. It resulted in catapulting him to a new level in Bollywood
and resulted in a string of hits like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Garam Masala,
Awara Paagal Deewana, Phir Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, Namastey London, Heyy
Babyy and Welcome among others.
These movies helped
establish Akshay Kumar as one of the leading lights of the Bollywood star
galaxy.
